Resumen:
Neotectonics in the Guañacos fold and thrust belt The Guañacos fold and thrust belt has been studied from a neotectonic perspective since mid-90?s. First, from the widely extended volcanic deposits of Pliocene and Pleistocene age which are linked to recent backarc extension. But also, geomorphic evidences, such as the great landslides density observed in this region of Neuquen, have been explained as a result of recent (Pleistocene?) local seismic activity. The present work shows a review and discussion of the regional frame, in which different hypotheses have been considered for the tectonic settlement for this area. A geomorphic inventory has been performed in order to make a critical assessment on the different evidences presented in previous works and also, taking into consideration new and more detailed satellital information, a topographic analysis was performed. The new evidence and results found are a new step on quantifying the neotectonic activity from this region but there is still much work to be done.
