Caracterización de la serie andesítica en los alrededores de los ríos meliquina y Caluefú, provincia de Neuquén

The Serie Andesítica near Meliquina and Caleufú rivers is composed of ryholitic lavas, pyroclastic rocks and basalts. Ryholites and pyroclastites crop out in the western region, while basalts dominate the eastern one. Ryholites are phorpyritic, with plagioclase, potasic feldspar, biotite and amphibole in a quartz, FK-rich groundmass. Basalts show low phenocryst/groundmass ratio; plagioclase is the main crystal phase. Petrographic and stratigraphic features allow identifying these sequences as to the Huitrera Formation part of the Serie Andesítica in the Andes Patagónicos, of Paleocene to Eocene age.
