Resumen:
The Andean segment between 28º and 33º S provides an excellent opportunity to study the evolution of an active Andean–type margin related to flat–slab subduction processes since Miocene times. Detailed structural, kinematic and geophysical data in the Hualilán area (Precordillera, Argentina) have shown up that cross–strike structures have had an important role in the evolution of the Andean orogen. They represent pre–existing crustal fabrics reactivated during the Andean cycle and have controlled the emplacement and the migration into foreland of Miocene arc–magmatism due to the flattening of the slab. Likewise, results obtained herein also support that kinematics in these structures has been significantly different from regional patterns but local kinematic reorientation are similar to those obtained at regional scale.
