Resumen:
Rising energy demands, depletion of fossil fuel reserves and environmental pollution has fueled the search for energy conversion devices with high efficiency and low emissions. Fuel cells powered by hydrogen or small organic molecules may have the potential to meet these requirements. The catalytic conversion of aromatic molecules is a very important process in the chemical industry, both for environmental and economical reason. Hydrogenation or hydrogenolysis of these molecules is the main target reactions in petroleum refining and reforming processes, which are performed on transition metal catalysts. A strong incentive is provided by the European legislation, which has set a strict limit on the concentration of benzene and other aromatic molecules in fuels. The Pt-Co alloy system has been used for multiple purposes, because of its interesting magnetic and catalytic behavior. It is a well-known fact and the basis of many of today?s technological applications that the catalytic properties of alloys are often superior to those of pure metalS.
