Probably the best way of approaching the Museo Travesti del Perú, a politic project founded in 2004 by artist and philosopher Giuseppe Campuzano (Lima, 1969-2013), is by tackling the very notion of travesti. No English word can convey the connotations the term carries in Latin America. As Campuzano himself points out, it is much more than a man who dresses like a woman, or a ?person who assumes the characteristics of the ?opposite sex??. The travesti explicitly manifests the male and female characteristics we all have, thus denouncing the inadequacy of the binarism of gender norms.
