Resumen:
The pesticidescypermethrin(CYP)andchlorpyrifos(CPF)werefoundtogetherinwaterbodieslocatedinagricultural andurbanareas.However,theimpacttonon-targetbiotafromexposuretomixtureshasreceivedlittleattention.Inthecurrentstudy,weevaluatedchangesinswimmingbehaviorandcholi-nesteraseenzymesactivityin Jenynsia multidentata, to investigatethepossibleeffectsofthesein-secticides individuallyandinmixtures.Moreover,differencesbetweentechnicalandcommercialmix-tures ofthepesticideswereevaluated.Femalesof J. multidentata wereexposedover96-htoCYP(0.04and 0.4 mg L1), CPF(0.4and4 mg L1), individuallyandinatechnicalandcommercialmixtures.Swimming behaviorwasrecordedafter24hand96hofexposure.Also,wemeasuredcholinesteraseenzymes activityinbrainandmuscleafter96hofexposure.ExposuretoCYPincreasedtheexploratoryactivity of J. multidentata in theupperareaoftheaquarium.FishexposedtoCPF(4 mg L1) showedadecrease inswimmingactivityandanincreaseinthetimespentatthebottomoftheaquarium.Inter-estingly, fish exposedtothetechnicalandcommercialmixtureofCYPandCPFdisplayedadifferentbehaviorbasedontheconcentrationofexposure.LowconcentrationofpesticideselicitedanincreaseinJ. multidentata swimming activitywithpreferencefortheupperareaoftheaquarium,andhighcon-centrations causeddecreaseinswimmingactivitywithpreferenceforthebottomareaoftheaquarium.Based ontheresponseofcholinesteraseenzymes,acetylcholinesteraseinmusclewasmoresensitivetoexposuretoCYP,CPFandtheirmixturesthaninbrain.Adecreaseinswimmingbehaviorcorrelatessignificantly withtheinhibitionofacetylcholinesteraseactivityinmuscleof J. multidentata exposedtohigh concentrationsofpesticides.These resultsdrawattentiontotheneedofmorestudiesonthepotentialecotoxicologicalimpactofpesticides anditsmixturesatenvironmentalrelevantconcentrations.
