Resumen:
The comparison of findings on digestive physiology from different research
laboratories is sometimes controversial due to the fact that the digestive
function is modified by anesthetics. The aim of the work was to compare the
effect of two different anesthetics on spontaneous as well as evoked bile and
pancreatic flows. Rats were anesthetized either with CH or U. Pancreatic
flow was stimulated with CCK-8 or secretin infusion whereas bile flow was
stimulated by dehidrocholate (DHC). Both U and CH diminished basal as
well as evoked pancreatic and bile flow as compared with conscious rats.
However, spontaneous as well as CCK or secretin evoked pancreatic flow
was reduced in rats anesthetized with CH as compared with U. Protein
output was also more decreased in CH anesthetized rats, supporting that the
effect of CH could be related to a decrease in protein output. Nevertheless
no difference was observed between the two anesthetics when basal and
DHC-evoked bile secretion was studied. Present results show the
importance of considering the anesthetic used in a study of pancreatic
secretion when comparing results from different laboratories.
