Resumen:
Grape quality for winemaking is highly dependent on sugar accumulation in berries. ABA and Gibberellins (GAs) have been reported to control sugar allocation in economically important organs. Furthermore, it has been stated that sugar transporters are involved in the regulation of source to sink carbon flow in many species. This work examined the gene expression of sucrose and monosaccharaides transporters as well as vacuolar and cell wall invertases in leaves and fruits in field pot-grown grapevines (Vitis vinifera L. cv Malbec) sprayed with ABA and GA3 during grape ripening. It was observed that the most expressed genes, assessed in adult leaves during berry ripening, were VvHT1, VvHT3, VvHT5, VvSUC27 and VvcwINV. Moreover, it was found that, in fruits at pre-veraison, the most abundant transcripts were VvHT2, VvHT3, VvHT6, VvSUC27 and VvGIN1, at veraison VvHT2, VvHT6 and VvSUC12 and finally, at post-veraison were VvHT2, VvHT6, VvSUC12 and VvcwINV. ABA and GA3 down-regulated the transcription of sugar transporters in adult leaves during berry ripening. However, ABA up-regulated the expression of the genes VvHT2 and VvHT6 coincident with the moment of rapid sugar accumulation in berries (veraison). In addition, GA3 up-regulated the transcription of VvHT2 and VvHT3 in berries at post-veraison. These findings may help to understand the mechanisms underlying sugar transport and accumulation in grapevines, nevertheless, further investigations must be done to find the subcellular localization of sugar transporters in leaves and fruits of grapevines.
