Resumen:
The Suco lagoon, located 40 Km way from Río Cuarto city, in the Córdoba province, Argentina, has a stream(called Suco) as a natural drainage system. An intensive degradation process (generating an step of about 4m onthe river bed) occurs in this stream, 2 km downstream from the lagoon. An hydraulic structure has been designedto control the mentioned degradation process. This structure is composed of four one meter high steps. To definethe final design of the hydraulic structure, an undistorted physical model was built (length scale, EL = 15 ) usingFroude similitude. This physical model is used to verify the behavior of the structure for different flowconditions. The objectives of the laboratory measurements performed in the physical model were: a)characterization of the mean velocity and turbulence intensity profiles in the region located upstream of thestructure; B) Characterization of the mean flow velocity patterns and the hydrostatic pressure on the structureregion; c) Characterization of the mean flow velocity patterns in the energy dissipation basin; and d) Analysis ofthe turbulence intensity values downstream of the energy dissipation basin. Finally, a new design of thehydraulic structure is proposed based on the observations performed in the physical model.PREMIO INMAC al Mejor Trabajo del Congreso
