Resumen:
Experimental results of turbulent ¯ows for both,®eld and laboratory tests are presented. The spatial andtemporal resolution is limited by the measuring instruments, which result in ``®ltering´´ out the very small scales, thusobserving only macroturbulence. The experimental ®eldresultshave been obtained during the large-scale surf zoneexperiments carried out in the Ebro Delta, (Spain), underspilling/plunging breaking waves. The ®eld-measurementsinclude several tests across the surf zone with high verticalresolution. The measured turbulent properties are comparedwith state-of-art macroturbulence characteristics and lengthparameterisations. Furthermore, a detailed comparison oftwo-dimensional electromagnetic and three-dimensionalultrasonic velocity measurements has been carried out forhydraulic jumps in a laboratory ¯ume to validate the ®eldmeasurements and to study the frequency response ofelectromagnetic sensors.
