In the study of the phytoplankton-zooplankton interactions, one of the most discussed aspects involves the species-specific and size-specific responses of the phytoplankton to different zooplankton assemblages. The zooplankton exerts two types of effects on the phytoplankton: one negative, through losses by grazing mechanisms, and the other positive, through the nutrient supply provided by the zooplankton?s rapid recycling.
