Resumen:
This paper studies the relationship between Confucian renaissance and the subsistence capacity of the Westphalian system, that is, the current system of international relations. The balance of powers, the principles of public international law and the deconcentrated structure of power are elements that constrain state preponderate over the international system, prevent the monopoly control of the system and avoid returning to a supranational system, as the European medieval system or the Chinese tributary system. These component parts of the system limit the international rise of China and the possibility that the Confucian principles supplant the Westphalian principles, although Confucianism and China have enough capacities to enrich the principles of the international system. Therefore, there are three research questions that will need to be answered in this paper: 1) Are these principles being proposed by China today? 2) Is the single action of a major power enough to change the principles of the international system? 3) Which is the resistance capacity of the international system against countries that propose change its principles? In fact, peace in the world depends on how these questions can be responded and, for that, this paper gives a brief and basic introduction to Confucian principles and its relation with international system.
