MT studies in the South-East region of Tucuman plain in the north-west of Argentina

During July 1990, new magnetotelluric measurements were carried out at four stations along an 85 km profile in the southesstem region of the Tucuman Plain. These data were analyzed to study the resistive structure of the sedimentary basin and the upper crust. The new observations complement previous magnetotelluric, gravity and tectonic investigations showing an important subsurface trough with a sedimentary fill more than 3000 m thick. Fuaher evidence was obtained concerning the presence of a highly conductive layer at 10 km depth that may he related to the presence of a hyperthermal layer.
