Resumen:
Reductions of fuel consumption and gas emissions countamong the main advantages of hybrid electric vehicles(HEV). It is well known that the level of hybridizationhas a large influence on the fuel consumption. On theother hand, the cost of manufacturing HEV increasessince at least two power sources are required. Therefore,a proper selection of the hybridization factor (HF) couldbe the result of a tradeoff between fuel consumption andcost. This paper shows how HF affects fuel consumptionof a HEV. The work was realized using Series andParallel architectures, with an internal combustionengine and electrochemical batteries as thermal machineand storage system respectively. Simulations withdifferent HF are evaluated using urban and road drivingprofiles. In order to achieve optimal power split, dynamicprogramming was applied. The results show that thereexists an optimal HF which generates the minimum fuelconsumption for each architecture. According that, theoptimal size of components are found for each caseanalyzed.
