The endocytic and secretory pathways have a central role in the physiology of the cell. All sort of fundamental processes, such as antigen presentation, autophagy, cell signaling, and neurotransmitter release depend on the coordinated transport of macromolecules among membrane bound organelles. Depict the fact that we have a detailed catalog of factors and functions that are necessary for intracellular trafficking, our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved is still fragmentary and qualitative. Our laboratory is interested in intracellular transport at different levels of organization, from the specific events leading to acrosomal exocytosis in human spermatozoa, the trafficking of antigens in dendritic cells, to the development of mathematical models for the endocytic route. In our research, we stress the importance of developing new experimental and theoretical tools to unveil unexplored aspects of well-known processes as a productive approach to Curiosity-Driven Research.
