In the session we will describe a service-learning experience carried out by volunteer students in Argentina and the theoretical framework underlying it. This project, on the one hand, intends to foster democratic values and competences by encouraging university students to take social or civic action beyond the classroom, and on the other, to provide children with a first contact with English, and experience it as a bridge for intercultural encounters in their local settings.
