The essay addresses the controversial issue of trade union’s bureaucracy. It posits at its starting point that two strands of thought have prevailed about this topic in Argentina. These are called in the paper as the orthodox and revisionist approaches, the former clearly demarcating a division between the union leadership’s and the rank-and-files’ interests and the latter establishing a relative connection between them. The essay explores the following hypothesis that both approaches fail to grasp the nature of the relationship between the question of interest definition and the social processes involved. It doing so, it concludes the importance of studying how organizational variables, leadership styles and the mechanism of decision-making, among others, play a role in the definition of workers’ immediate interests and demands. El ensayo aborda el problema de la burocracia sindical. Su punto de partida es que en Argentina fueron dos las corrientes de pensamiento predominantes sobre el tema, el enfoque ortodoxo y el enfoque revisionista, el primero caracterizado por establecer una clara demarcación entre los intereses de las direcciones sindicales y los de las bases trabajadoras, y el segundo, caracterizado por establecer algún tipo de conexión entre ambos. El ensayo explora la siguiente hipótesis: que ambos enfoques fallan al ser incapaces de analizar las construcción social de los intereses y demandas obreras y los procesos sociales que participan en dicha construcción. Así, el trabajo concluye resaltando la importancia de estudiar cómo variables organizacionales, estilos de liderazgo y los procesos de toma de decisión, entre otros, juegan un rol en la definición de los intereses inmediatos y las demandas de la clase obrera.
