The aim of the article is to know the motivations ofstudents of Program of Post-graduate in Law fromUniversidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR) to publish inscientific journals. It develops a qualitative andexploratory research and it uses the questionary as a datacollection instrument. The population of the research arethe students of Program of Post-graduate in Law fromUFPR. The article classifies the motivations in fourcategories: scientific-professional, financial/reward,personal and technological. It shows the academicrecognition from intellectual production as the mostimportant motivation for the students. The paper alsohighlights the low availability of time to research andwrite as the main difficulty. It indicates the long time toevaluate the articles submitted to scientific journals as adifficulty besides those cited in the research, especiallywhen the journals are classified in the highest levels ofQualis from Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoalde Nível Superior (CAPES). It also identifies similaritiesamong the results of this research and others that wereconducted in Brazil about motivations to publish inscientific journals.
