Resumen El artículo aborda principalmente la novela Aguas abajo de Eduardo Wilde, donde el autor pone de manifiesto y agudiza su descontento con el perfil de “modernidad” que se instaló en el país a fines de siglo XIX y principios del XX, planteo que ya había insinuado en sus primeras obras. En Aguas abajo, Wilde, “exiliado” en Bruselas, regresa introspectivamente a su niñez en Tupiza, Bolivia, para manifestar desde una estética impresionista una re-lectura sobre la naturaleza, el arte, la lengua, la religión y lo femenino. El texto sugiere la escisión de un sujeto que produce modernidad a la vez que la resiste. Abstract This paper is mainly about the novel Aguas abajo by Eduardo Wilde. In this novel the author manifests and sharpens his dissatisfaction to the “modernity” profile that settled in the country at the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries, a position that he had already suggested in his first works. In Aguas abajo, Wilde, “exiled” in Brussels returns introspectively to his childhood in Tupiza, Bolivia, to manifest from an impressionist aesthetics a different reading about nature, art, language, religion and the feminine world. The text suggests the division of a subject that produces modernity and at the same time rejects it.
