Resumen:
Generation of reacitve oxygen species, a common feature of abiotic and biotic stress. In this chapter we review the different antioxidant redox molecules and mechanisms present in protozo, focusing in the central role played by glutathione. We analyze the known glutathione-dependent processes directly related to spcecific life-style of the different parasites. We discuss the characteristics and functions of glutaredoxins, glyoxalases, thioredoxins, glutathione reductase and glutathione S-transferases.
