A homogenization model for evaluating the effectiveelastodynamic properties of acoustic metamaterials in problems involving wavepropagation is discussed. The methodology is based on determining the constitutive equationsin terms of averaged quantities observed at the macroscale. In this sense, theapproach follows very closely the pioneering ideas introduced by Willis, andafterwards, followed by several authors in the last ten years. The distinctivecharacteristic of our approach is that we write the microscale equation in thespatial domain. The model is validated with previous results published in theliterature, and our results copy them almost exactly. The resultinghomogenization model could be used as an additional tool for the topologydesign of acoustic metamaterials.
