Recent developments in the Continuum Strong Discontinuity Approach (CSDA) are presented:1) an implicit-explicit integration of the softening constitutive model, which renders the tangent constitutivealgorithmic operator constant and positive definite and 2) a specific arc-length method, combined with an errorcontrol procedure, for that implicit/explicit integration scheme. To illustrate the computational efficiencyachieved with the proposed procedures, two three-dimensional numerical simulations of failure problems arecarried out: the analysis of the size effect in the Brazilian test and the structural collapse of a concrete dam.
