Resumen:
Computational design of engineering materials accounting for their microstructure has gainedconsiderable interest in the computational mechanics community. Whereas one-scale optimizationtechniques (i.e. macroscopic topology and material arrangement of structures) are nowadays relativelywell established, simultaneous, hierarchically coupled, optimization of both scales is a promisingresearch subject deserving further exploration. This work is an attempt to evaluate the performance ofa numerical tool based on:a) A description of the multiscale material behaviour using a two-scale homogenizationprocedure [1].b) A continuum, gradient-based, optimization scheme based on the interior point method [2].c) Optimal design of the microstructure topology and arrangement using SIMP (Solid IsotropicMaterial with Penalization) techniques [3].d) Optimal design of the macrostructure topology coupled with the optimal arrangement ofcomponents at the microstructure. In this scenario, a preliminary exploration of a computational scheme for optimization of thearrangement of the material components in the microstructure, coupled with the topology optimizationat the macrostructure is presented.
