Resumen:
The paper presents a three-dimensional methodology to model reinforced concrete members, using finite elementswith embedded strong discontinuities. The concept of mixture theory is used to represent the reinforcedconcrete behavior (composite material), which is constituted by a matrix (plain concrete) and multiple longfibers (steel rods) in different directions. The effects of the reinforced concrete are represented by means of a damageconstitutive model (differentiated tensile-compression) for the matrix (plain concrete), and a elasto-plasticconstitutive model for the fibers (steel rods). The composite material failure (reinforced concrete) is determinedby the discontinuous bifurcation analysis. Finally, the numerical solution obtained with the computationalmodel proposed here, is validated through an experimental result.
