Resumen:
BIOMONITORING OF GENETIC DAMAGE IN HUMANS EXPOSED TO AGROCHEMICALS The use of agro-chemicals has increased exponentially in recent decades in the province of Cordoba. Many of these compounds are considered chemical mutagens. Using tests of genotoxicity in peripheral blood of people exposed to pesticides is possible to determine the effects of such exposure. Chromosomal aberrations, Micronuclei and Comet assay was carried out in two groups (21-56 years old): rural workers exposed to agrochemicals in different locations in Cordoba (n: 14), and urban inhabitants of Rio Cuarto (n: 14). We found a statistically significant increase in the value of genetic damage in the group exposed to agrochemicals in relation to the control group in all three trials (x± DE) The Chromosome aberration test showed an increase of 2,36 ± 1,74 to 4,68 ± 3,55. The number of micronucleated cells was 7,25 ± 1,48, and 10,81 ± 5,21. In the case of Comet assay, the increase was 115 ± 71 to 3037 ± 3731 arbitrary units. These results suggest that exposure to chemicals causes effects which can be detected by biomonitoring of genetic damage.
