Resumen:
Abstract 160 species of Liolaemus have been described and half of them have been studied cytogenetically with standard techniques, only six species have been studied in their C bands and nucleolar organizers. The objectives of the present study were describe the C band patterns in L. cuyanus and L. riojanus, and the meiotic figures in these species and in L. koslowskyi. Both aspects are analyzed for the first time in this species. Chromosomal preparations were obtained with standard cytogenetic techniques. In C bands the number and location of bands were analyzed. In the meiotic figures 10 diacinesis per specie were analyzed. It is reported the number of bivalents and the number and position of the quiasmas. The presence of heterochromatin in L. cuyanus and L. riojanus is only observed in the centromeric region in the macrochromosomes and first pair of microchromosomes, different respect to other genera of lizards. The number of bivalents is variable: 17 in L. cuyanus, 16 in L. riojanus and 18 in L. koslowskyi, other than the number and positions of the quiasmas described. The diacinesis show one interstitial and two terminal quiasmas in pairs #1 and #2 bivalents. Only L. koslowskyi presents other extra interstitial quiasma, also observed in #3 and #4. Bivalent #5 presents 2 terminal quiasmas in L. riojanus, one of these being subterminal in L. cuyanus and L. koslowskyi. C bands are not significantly informative for the genera and the meiotic figures contribute to the diagnosis of the species included. and 18 in L. koslowskyi, other than the number and positions of the quiasmas described.
