Resumen:
In recent years, macroecology has helped to address global change issues and has assisted conservation planning at regional, continental, and global scales, and can be broadly merged into conservation biogeography research programs. Global anthropogenic changes resulting from expanding and intensifying land uses, pollution, exotic species introductions, and overharvesting of biological resources have threatened species and caused progressive degradation ofecosystem services upon which humans rely. For instance, the impacts of broad-scale climate and landuse change on geographic patterns of species richness can be predicted with macroecological methods, potentially helping direct conservation resources to regions where needs are greatest. In return, globalchanges create ?pseudo-experimental? opportunities to build stronger, mechanistic theories in macroecology that successfully predict multiple phenomena across spatial scales. Throughout this chapter, we have applied macroecological approaches and methods to explore richness patterns of Brazilian and meridional South American coralsnakes and to address issues related to the impacts of climate change and conservation biogeography.
