Resumen:
From biomolecules to complex biological systems Nature reveals to us as a complex and sophisticated machinery governed by recognition and supramolecular organization with an exquisite spatial and temporal control. In this context, proteins carry out numerous functions which play a crucial role in the growth, repair and working of cells (1). In the post-genomic (2) era how proteins are genetically code and how their linear chains of amino acids are put together is in principle well known. However, how these chains of amino acids are preprogrammed to fold into their correct protein structure is one of the mysteries of life (3). Our research interests are directed towards the development of chemical entities and methodologies with the aim to manipulate biological systems. By this chemical approach we pretend to shed light in the understanding of the relation between recognition, self-assembly and function of biological systems. Our recent efforts are presented.
