Epicuticular wax and water stress in Eragrostis Curvula cultivars. I. Morphology and distribution

The superstructure of the leaf surface was studied in six colors of weeping grass, Grass curves (Schrader) Nees, of different degrees of tolerance to drought. By scanning electron microscopy it was observed that the cultivars more tolerant to this environmental factor have a thicker and complex abaxial apicuticular waxy layer than the susceptible ones. It was also determined that in these more tolerant cultivars the total amount of wax is higher. The relationship between the amount and distribution of the epicuticular wax and the resistance to drought in this species is discussed
