Gene regulatory networks (GRNs) are crucial for understanding cellular processes and diseases. Discovering the conservation of GRNs across species and integrating phenotypic and genotypic information are essential steps toward comprehending network dynamics and identifying key gene drivers. Self-organizing maps (SOMs) are powerful tools for analyzing complex biological data due to their ability to capture high-dimensional relationships in lower dimensions. The use of SOMs may facilitate the discovery of candidate genes as potential enablers of specific phenotypic traits, or to detect displacements in GRNs between species.
