Resumen:
Glycerol, also known as glycerin or glycerine is abundant in nature. The chemical is a main by-product in the production of biodiesel, after which it became a cheap industrial chemical. New processes to add value to glycerol are presently urgent. Herein, we review the different procedures, either chemical or biochemical, currently utilized to convert glycerol in different compounds or using the polyol for specific industrial applications.
