From Global Positioning System radio occultation (GPS RO) temperature profiles, retrieved from CHAMP (CHAllenging Minisatellite Payload) and SAC-C (Satélite de Aplicaciones Científicas-C) satellites, preliminary results of global long-term potential energy and mean potential energy per unit mass associated to wave activity (WA) in the lower and middle stratosphere and in the upper troposphere, are presented. WA enhancements around the tropopause/s (TP) are not considered. Systematic annual and interannual features, clearly evidenced though 58 months of observations (May 2001-February 2006), as a function of height, latitude and time are shown.
