Resumen:
Over the last few years, argumentation has been gaining increasingimportance in several AI-related areas,  mainly as a vehiclefor facilitating rationally justifiabledecision making when handling incomplete and potentially inconsistentinformation. In this setting, user support systemscan rely on argumentation techniques to automatizereasoning and decision making inseveral situations such as the handling of complexpolicies or managing change in dynamicenvironments. This paper presents a generic argument-based approachto characterize user support systems, in whichknowledge representation and inference arecaptured in terms of Defeasible Logic Programming,a general-purpose defeasible argumentation formalismbased on logic programming. We discuss a particular applicationwhich has emerged as an instance of this approachoriented towards providing user decision supportfor web search.
