Resumen:
The first objective of this research is to determine if there exists a relationship between character strengths and virtues and the Big Five. The second objective is to determine if there exists differences in the character strength and virtue profiles of civilians and military personnel. The third objective is to determine if there exists differences in the strength, virtue, and personality trait profiles of high and low performing cadets. The results of the second objective showed that there do exist differences in the strength profiles of civilians and military personnel. The members of the military scored higher in the strengths of leadership, gratitude, and spirituality, while civilians showed greater strengths of humor, appreciation of beauty and self-regulation. Finally, the results of the third objective show that the first and fourth year cadets with high academic performance were more humble, extroverted, and persistent than those of low performance. Furthermore, the first and fourth year cadets with high performance (both academically and militarily) showed higher levels of self-regulation, humor, and appreciation of beauty than those of low academic performance.
