Resumen:
The use of plants for medicinal and pesticide purposes has been a common practice since ancient years. Numerous extracts and compounds obtained from plants are being studied in order to find new sources of active compounds or raw material for therapeutic or agronomical preparations. Although many plant families are under screening for this purpose, the plant world is far from being totally explored, and this also applies to native flora from the central region of Argentina. We have thus focused our research to find new antibacterial, antifungal, herbicides, insecticides and enzyme inhibitors from 100 plants belonging to different botanical families.  Plants were collected in central Argentina. This place is very rich in flora, with a great diversity of native and naturalized plants that have been very little explored. Screenings of selected plants are discussed together with the isolation and identification of responsible compounds from those plant extracts showing the highest activity in each tested area. The individual effectiveness of isolated active principles is also presented taking in mind that this molecules could be directly used as phytopharmaceutical drugs or pesticides or serve as leading molecules for the synthesis of analogues.
