Resumen:
This work presents the evaluation of a mini prototype for shock electrodialysis as a proof of concept for future miniaturization of the cell for shock deionization of water in microfluidic devices. This home-made cell includes two stainless steel electrodes with a continuous electrolyte flow through a biochar porous material. A decrease in the outlet ion conductivity was observed operating the cell at 15ccm flow rate and when a voltage of 0.7V was applied between the two electrodes. With a proper engineering design and optimized operating conditions, this cell can be used in the development of new microfluidic devices for water deionization.
