Resumen:
One of the indicators of the propolis functional quality is their antimicrobial activity. The objective ofthis work is to determine the antimicrobial capacity of propolis fromCatamarca, Argentina, over human pathogenic bacteria which show differentmechanisms of resistance to commercial antibiotics. Extracts with ethanol wereprepared, according to what is described in IRAM-INTA 15935-1 Regulation. Then,sub-extracts were obtained by means of fractionated extractions with differentsolvents (hexane, chloroform and water). Extracts and sub-extracts evaporated andsuspended back in ethanol. The content of total phenolic and flavonoid compoundswere determined, microbiologic (bio-autographies) tests were made and values ofminimum inhibitory concentration (CIM) were established by means of the macrodissolutionin solid means method (CLSI, 2007) to 18 isolated stumps of skin and softpart infections: S. aureus, E. faecalis, E. coli, K. pneurnoniae, P. mirahilis, E. cloacae,P.stuartii, M. rnorganii, P.aeruginosa. Test results showed that ethanolic andchloroformic extracts have an antibiotic activity with Gram positive and negativebacteria in at least three compounds. CIM values of extracts analyzed in Grampositive bacteria were similar, of the order of 100-200 pglml, while in Gram negativebacteria values were 10 times higher. This shows that extracts and metabolitesisolated in propolis from Catamarca could be used in pharmaceutical products withantibiotic capacity against multi-resistant bacteria.Funding and Acknowledgements: CONICET, ANPCyT, CIUNT, INTA, Fundaci6nMiguel Lillo
