Resumen:
Prólogo del Applied Surface Science, vol. 254, nro.1  This special issue of Applied Surface Science contains articles of presentations made at the 13th International Conference on Solid Films and Surfaces (ICSFS13) held in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, from 6th to 10th November, 2006. This series of conferences began in Tokyo (1978) and was held most recently in Princeton (2000), Marseille (2002), and Hamamatsu (2004); this 13th edition was the first conference organized in a Latin-American country. The host institution was the Centro Atómico Bariloche of the Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica (CNEA). It was attended by 264 delegates from 31 countries that presented over 350 contributions in a variety of fields ranging from fundamental properties of thin films and surfaces to the growth of nanostructures, functionalization of surfaces, spintronics, and biomaterials. This special issue contains 7 invited review articles and 87 contributions.
