Resumen:
This work studies phosphonates performance when used in industrial Kraft Eucalyptus grandisTCF bleaching (O-Q-Op-P). A bleaching sequence with DTPMPA incorporation in different stages and without a Q stage is compared with a sequence using EDTA in the Q stage and DTPMPA in the P stage. Laboratory and industrial results are compared and some explanations to differences are provided. Results show that it is possible to eliminate the Q stage replacing it by DTPMPA incorporation in brown stock washing, Op and P stages. Optical and mechanical properties of final pulps show no significant differences when using both sequences. Final pulp’s characteristics are independent of previous stages properties. DTPMPA addition in P stages of both sequences could be the reason of this behaviour. Results of both TCF treatments applied to industrial pulps where contrasted with previous laboratory pulps data. DTPMPA addition not only chelates deleterious metals to the TCF bleaching sequence, but it had the unexpected effect of producing mechanical properties increase in some cases.
