Resumen:
Investigations on population genetics of bacterialpathogens have contributed to analyze episodes of temporalvariation in disease severity and frequency. These analyses pointout the fact that distinct bacterial clones are responsible for diseaseoutbreaks and increases in infection frequency. Many of theseclones are characterized by unique combinations of virulence genesor alleles of virulence genes. This review will summarize theinsights accrued from population genetic analysis of differentbacteria, which are responsible for relevant public heath infectiousdiseases.
