Resumen:
Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid hormone with an important role in electrolyte homeostasis. Endurance horses are at high risk of developing dehydration and electrolyte imbalances because of their high sweating rate, prolonged duration of exercise and elevated concentrations of electrolytes in horse sweat. Changes in electrolytes concentrations and the effect of ALD have been described in one-day races; however, these changes have not been investigated in multi-day competitions yet. This work was performed to assess changes in ALD, sodium, chloride and potassium concentrations in horses that were able to complete a six-day endurance race.
