Resumen:
Genetic damage induced by either low doses or low rates of ionizing radiation is higher than expected. This study was carried out in order to analyze the effect of chronic exposure of Argentine air crew members to low doses of ionizing radiations. Seventy one heparinized blood samples were obtained from technical ground workers (controls; n= 10; group A), pilots of domestic flight (n=14; group B), pilots of transequatorial flight (n= 17; group C), pilots of transpolar flight (n=17; group D) and retired pilots (n=10; group E). The frequency of dicentric chromosomes was higher in groups B and C, compared to groups D and E, and all of them higher to control ones. These observations suggest that the exposure of the air craft to ionizing radiations may induce chromosomal aberrations. On the other hand; dicentric chromosomes in domestic pilots and retired are still high compared to controls. the other hand; dicentric chromosomes in domestic pilots and retired are still high compared to controls. exposure of the air craft to ionizing radiations may induce chromosomal aberrations.
