Resumen:
Supplementation of High doses of electrolytes enhances water intake as well as urine production, changing drastically urine composition and changing its chloride and sodium concentration.
This work aimed to
evaluate electrolytes supplementation effects on physicochemical
characteristics of equine urine. Three crossbreed horses fitted with
a cannula at right dorsal colon (RDC) were used in a Latin square 3x3
replicated design. Treatments were different electrolytes
supplementations: control, medium dose and high dose electrolytes.
unine at 2, 4, 6, 9 and 12 hours after supplementation, and dry
matter (DM), pH, and electrolytes Na K Cl were evaluated. Electrolyte
supplemented horses showed higher urine DM (1030 and 1015) and of
electrolytes concentration compared with control horses. These
results showed that electrolyte supplementation promoted urine
concentration and differential electrolyte elimination by the kidney.
