Resumen:
In this work the steam reforming of methanol over Cu supported on CeO2 or ZrO2 is investigated. The influence of support nature and the source of Cu on catalytic activity is also studied. The catalysts with 5 %w/w of Cu were prepared by impregnation method. They were characterized by SBET, XRD and TPR. The samples were very active at 300 °C being H2 and CO2 the main reaction products. A low amount of CO and CH2O was also detected. In general, the characterization showed that CuO was reduced under reforming conditions and Cu0 particles suffer certain sintering degree during the reaction. The catalyst synthesized over CeO2 obtained by precipitation method showed the highest methanol conversion with a moderate deactivation during 400 min in time on stream.
