Resumen:
Caneer is one of the most important causes of death worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, Iymphoma stand at the fifth place of cancer related death over the world. It is characterized by abnormallymphocyte proliferation and appears as a solid tumor most commonly in the Iymph nodes ot the neck, chest, armpit or groin [1]. Chemotherapy is one ot the best options in the treatment of cancer. However, currently used drugs have serious side effects. For this reason, it is necessary to search tor new and more selective drugs with tewer adverse effects. Sesquiterpene lactones (STLs) are natural terpenoid compounds that have received considerable attention due to their antiparasitic, antiinflamatory and antitumoraJ activities. In this sense, the aim of the presentstudy was to evaluate the effect of psilostachyin, psilostachyin C and peruvin, three STLs of the pseudoguaianolide type, on a Iymphocityc leukaemia cellline (BW 5147). Psilostachyin C was the most active compound with a 50% effective concentration (ECso)ot 4.89 ¡.¡g/mLwhen tested tor its in vitro antiproliferative activity. This compound exerted cytostatic and cytotoxic activity in relation to apoptosis, but was non toxic when tested on normal murine Iymphocytes (50% cytotoxic concentration (CC5o) higher than 50 ¡Jg/mL).These findings show the importance ot STLs as potential candidates for Iymphoma and leukemia treatment.
