Resumen:
La1−xCaxMnO3 perovskites werepreparedbythecitratemethodandcharacterizedbymeansofX-ray diffraction, temperatureprogrammeddesorptionofoxygen,temperatureprogrammedreduction,and measurement ofspecificsurfacearea.Thecharacterizationresultsindicatedthatpureperovskitephases were obtainedandtheirspecificsurfaceareasareappropriatefortheapplicationincatalyticoxidation. The unsubstitutedperovskite,LaMnO3, couldpresentacertainamountofMn4+ and cationicvacancies, which isgenerallycalledoxidativenonstoichiometry.Theelectronicunbalanceyieldbythepartialsub- stitution oflanthanumbycalcium,acationofloweroxidationstate,causedanoxidationstateincrease of partofthemanganeseoccupyingtheBsitesofthestructure.Concurrently,theamountofcationic vacancies decreasedwiththeincreaseofcalciumamount.Thecatalyticactivitywasevaluatedinthe combustion ofethanolandn-hexane.Bothreactionswouldoccurbymeansofasuprafacialreaction mechanism inwhichtheadsorbedoxygenspeciesarerelevant.
