Resumen:
Traditionally, nickel hydroxides have been explored for the construction of batteries but many other applications have emerged more recently. This article reviews the use of Ni-based double hydroxide materials applied as electrochemical catalysts in Chemical Sensors. Aiming to provide readers with a good foundation of the subject, the characteristics of nano- and macro-structured nickel hydroxide materials, are also described, along with their use for batteries and supercapacitors. Special attention is given to discussion of the morphology of the various nanostructured materials scattered throughout the literature. Finally, a summary of reviews of sensors, from the early 80s to the most recent studies. This last section approaches the types of electrochemical sensors and their applicability for different analytes. We also present a table containing all reported double hydroxide sensors to date, allowing a comparison of the relevant parameters of each sensor response to make the evaluation of their potential easier.
