Resumen:
The examination of data on total health spending, drawn from a large sample ofcountries, yields a clear pattern: not only health spending tends to risewith per capita income, but also the public share of this spending increases.In this paper we develop a simple model to explain this stylized fact. Based ona median voter argument we show how the distribution of ages of the populationcan become relevant for the explanation of the public-private composition oftotal health spending.-
