Resumen:
Power-electronics devices based on Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) that use temporary energy storage, e.g. Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOM) with Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) devices, can be incorporated to power systems at strategic locations to improve their frequency control. Both the basic operation and the modeling technique to represent the STATCOM-SMES devices are described. A simplified model is proposed for quasi-steady state types of studies, such as frequency stability analyses. Digital simulation is used to validate the proposed model in a testing system with a three-phase fault applied near the FACTS device.
