Resumen:
This work is a preliminary approach of Part E: Application to Case Studies, conforming Chapter 11, Biofuels in Argentina, of the Handbook on LCIA of Global Land Use within the framework of the UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative. It aims at determining the land use impact caused by a bioenergetic crop: rapeseed, cultivated in the mid-west of Argentina, using Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) as the main indicator. As a case study, an experimental rapeseed cultivation performed by the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) located in the in the province of Mendoza, in the western arid region of Argentina. All cases have a negative value meaning that the final state after rapeseed cultivation is better than the initial one. The impact model proposed is a suitable model for determining land use impact caused by the cultivation of bioenergetic crops.
